How can you sound less monotone?
English listeners use stressed content words to follow meaning. Sounding less monotone means choosing the word that carries the contrast—not making every word louder.
Repeat one sentence three times and move the main stress to a different content word each time. Use a small change in pitch, duration, and energy, then transfer it to a 30-second answer.
ENGLISH RHYTHM
Not every word needs equal weight
In natural English, articles and other function words are often lighter while content words carry the message. Giving every word identical weight can make the sentence harder to scan.
Equal stressArticles and key nouns receive the same prominence.
Predictable endingsEvery sentence falls in the same pitch and energy pattern.
Loudness does all the workEmphasis is produced only by getting louder.
